The following guidelines shall be followed for conduct of APTET:
Qualifications:
Paper-1A
Classes I to V in Regular Schools
The minimum required pass percentage of marks in the prescribed qualifications after 2011 for appearing APTET is as follows:
i) Intermediate/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least
50% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates must acquire 45% marks and two (2) year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
(or)
ii) Intermediate/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least
50% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates must acquire 45% marks and four (4) year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
Or
iii) Intermediate/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least
50% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates must acquire 45% marks and two (2) year Diploma in Education (Special
Education)
(or)
The minimum required pass percentage of marks in the prescribed qualifications before 2011 for appearing APTET is as follows:
iv) Intermediate/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least
45% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates, the minimum marks shall be 40% marks and two (2) year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) in accordance with the Regulations 2002 notified on 13.11.2002 and NCTE (Recognition
norms and procedure), 2007 notified on 10-12-2007 issued from
time to time in this regard.
Paper-1 B
👉 Classes I to V in Special Education
i) Intermediate/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least
50% marks and Two (2) year D.Ed. Special Education in any of the
category of disability
(or)
ii) One (1) year Diploma in Special Education (DSE) in any of the
category of disability.
(or)
iii) Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation (DCBR) with six (6)
months Certificate Course in Education of Children with Special Needs (CwSN).
(or)
iv) Post Graduate Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation
(PGDCBR) with six (6) months Certificate Course in Education of
Children with Special Needs (CwSN).
(Or)
v) Diploma in Multi Rehabilitation Worker (MRW) with six (6) months
Certificate Course in Education of Children with Special Needs
(CwSN).
(Or)
vi) Junior Diploma in Teaching the Deaf.
(Or)
vii) Primary level Teacher Training Course in Visual Impairment.
(Or)
viii) Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation – Mental Retardation (DVR- MR) / Diploma in Vocational Training and Employment – Mental
Retardation (DVTE-MR) with Six (6) months Certificate course in
Education of Children with Special Needs (CwSN).
(Or)
ix) Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech (DHLS) with six (6)
months Certificate course in Education of Children with Special Needs (CwSN).
(Or)
x) Intermediate/ Senior Secondary passed with any RCI recognized
qualification of minimum one(1) year duration and six (6) months
Certificate course in Education of Children with Special Needs
(CwSN).
(Or)
Any other equivalent qualification approved by RCI.
Note: (For point i to x) In case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates must
acquire 45% marks in the basic required qualification.
👉 Minimum Qualifications for TET Paper- 2A (Classes VI-VIII):
(Mathematics Teachers, Physical Science Teachers, Biological
Science Teachers)/(Social Studies Teachers) The minimum required pass percentage of marks in the prescribed qualifications after 2011 for appearing TET is as follows:
i) At least 50% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates
must acquire 45% marks in Graduation from a recognised
University with Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).
(or)
ii) Four (4) year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
with at least 50% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates
must acquire 45% marks from a recognised University.
(or)
iii) Four (4) year integrated B.A./B.Sc. or B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed.
least 50% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates must
acquire 45% marks from a recognised University.
(or)
iv) Graduation with at least 50% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates must acquire 45% marks and one (1) year B.Ed (Special Education)
(or)
v) Post-Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/PwBD candidates must acquire 50% marks or
equivalent grade and three (3) year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed.
(or)
The minimum required pass percentage of marks in the prescribed qualifications before 2011 for appearing TET is as follows:
vi) Graduation from a recognised University with at least 45%
marks, in case of SC/ST/BC/ PwBD candidates, the minimum
marks shall be 40% and one (1) year Bachelor of Education in
accordance with the NCTE recognition norms and procedure
Regulations 2002 notified on 13.11.2002 and NCTE regulations
2007 notified on 10-12-2007 issued from time to time in this
regard. Provided that minimum percentage of marks in graduation
shall not be applicable to those incumbents who had already taken
admission to the Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Elementary Education or equivalent course prior to the 29th July, 2011.
APTET-Applicability:
The APTET shall apply to all the schools referred to in Clause (n) of
Section 2 of the RTE Act. However, a school referred to in Sub-Clause
(iv) of Clause (n) of Section 2 of the RTE Act, may exercise the option
of considering either the TET conducted by the Central Government or the APTET. Teachers working in Private Schools whose appointments were not approved by the competent authority, are not exempted from passing TET. Such teachers of Private Unaided Schools shall appear for TET conducted by either the State Government or Central
Government. In respect of non-approved teachers working in Private Aided Schools, they shall invariably appear for TET conducted by the
State Government only.
👉 TET for in-service Teachers:
As per the judgment of the
Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025, in-
service teachers who were recruited prior to the enactment of the RTE Act, and having more than five years of service to retire on
superannuation, as on 01.09.2025 i.e., the date of the above orders
of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025, must
qualify the TET. The existing Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs) and School Assistants (SAs) who do not have a TET qualification may appear for Paper 1A/1B and 2A/2B, in their concerned subject.
(Eligibility criteria for appearing APTET as detailed at Rule-5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, is exempted for all in-service teachers serving in all Government
and Private Aided Institutions).
9.2: TET for Languages and Social Studies candidates: Before
2017, there was a common paper for SA (Languages) and SA (Social
Studies). From the 2017 TET onwards, separate examinations have been conducted for Languages and Social Studies subjects. Hence, candidates who qualified in the combined TET previously may appear for separate paper and qualify in the concerned paper only.
